Kidson Energy has submitted an extensive Magneto Telluric (MT) survey program to target areas within the prospecting authority SPA - 0091. This overcomes the challenges associated with other large scale geophysical acquisitions which are not cost effective in this region.
The rational for the MT survey is to define the sub-surface stratigraphic layering across the leads with the intention to confirm existing aeromagnetic and seismic anticlinal closures. These leads have been identified through an extensive review of a combined 2-D seismic and magnetic data set. The MT acquisition will be aligned in a perceived dip line cross section with up to three dip profiles acquired per prospect/lead. The coverage of the MT study is planned to cover the margins of the leads to define the amplitude of the possible closure.
Once acquisition, processing and reporting of the MT survey is complete it will be incorporated with existing aeromagnetic/satellite, geochemistry, and seismic interpretations. This will then allow Kidson to rank the identified leads in perceived order of hydrocarbon prospectivity and provide additional targets for the Kidson Canning Appraisal Campaign or targets for further discrete 3-D seismic acquisitions.
A benefit of the MT survey is that it is an air deployed, passive survey that has minimal ground disturbance. The survey will be performed in conjunction within the bounds of the Traditional Owner protocols and agreements that are already in place for this work program. The aerial low disturbance nature of this survey allows for ready access over the large area and is completed with negligible environmental impact. The environmental controls for the survey are described in the Environment Plan and the method of the survey is further detailed within the Safety Management System.
